Streszczenie angielskie: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) in pregnancy may complicate its course and harm the fetus or newborn after vertical transmission. The main aim of this study was to assess an association between bacterial vaginosis and bacterial vaginosis associated flora at early pregancy and threatened preterm labor (TPL). The study population comprised 179 pregnant women attending 10 randomly chosen Outpatients Maternity Units at Ist trimester. Cervicovaginal samples were obtained at 8-16 weeks of gestation. On the basis on Spiegel's criteria Gram-stained vaginal smears were examined for BV and bacterial vaginosis associated flora were sought by culture. In 23 (12.8 p.c.) cases, TPL was diagnosed during pregnancy. Bacterial vaginoses were more frequently diagnosed among women with TPL as compared to women with no symptoms of TPL (39.1 p.c. vs. 26 p.c.). BV increased the risk of TPL (OR=2.14). Women with bacterial vaginosis and TPL were more likely to be culture-positive for bacterial vaginosis associated flora like: M.hominis, U.urealyticum, G.vaginalis, Prevotella spp. Mobiluncus spp. and Bacteroides spp. Bacterial vaginosis at early pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of threatened risk of threatened preterm labor. Detailed microbiological monitoring of all pregnant women at early pregnancy should be introduced.

Streszczenie angielskie: The aim of this study was to establish whether genital mycoplasma could active in vivo human placental mast cells to mediator release. We have used temperature-killed Mycoplasma hominis (7 strains), Ureaplasma urealyticum (12 strains) and, for comparison, 5 strains of normal vaginal flora (Lactobacillus fermentum, L.jenseni, L.acidophilus (2 strains), Bifidobacterium adolescents) isolated from cervical canal of pregnant women. We have noticed that that M.homonis- and U.urealyticum-induced histamine release from placental mast cells were very high (up to 41.2 p.c. and 50.2 p.c. respectively). At the same experimental conditions the stimulation of placental mast cells with strains of normal vaginal flora resulted in insignificant histamine secretion (0.4 - 3.8 p.c.). The conclusions were that genital mycoplasma present in reproductive tract can activated placental mast cells to mediator release. Thus it can be speculated that these strains of bacteria may influence the course of pregnancy via interaction with placental mast cells.
