    Streszczenie polskie: Podjęto próbę określenia wpływu metody izolacji DNA z płynu mózgowo-rdzeniowego na wynik amplifikacji fragmentów genu B1 Toxoplasma gondii w łańcuchowej reakcji polimerazy. Stwierdzono, że najwydajniejszą spośród 3 metod, które poddawano badaniom była metoda izolacji enzymatycznej, ponieważ umożliwiała wykrywanie DNA T. gondii w 50 proc. próbek zawierających tylko jednego pasożyta.

    Streszczenie angielskie: We examined influence of the method of isolation of DNA from cerebrospinal fluid samples on results of PCR in the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis of the central nervous system. Three different protocols of DNA isolation were used for DNA extraction from 360 samples made of cerebrospinal fluid spiked with tachyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii: thermic, enzymatic and enzymatic-filtering. Purified DNA samples were tested by PCR with primers T15 and T16 designed for the B1 gene of the parasite. Enzymatic method of DNA isolation appeared most effective allowing detection of T. gondii DNA in 50 p.c. of samples containing single parasite cell.

    Streszczenie angielskie: To establish a prenatal diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis the PCR test was doneon amniotic fluids from 47 women suspeccted of primary Toxoplasma infection during pregnancy. Fragments of Toxoplasma B1 gene were found in 5 examined samples. Positive tests were confirmed by mouse inoculation or by serologic testing of newborns. It was concluded that the PCR performed on amniotic fluid should be recommended for the prenatal diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis, however, negative results of the test can not rule out congenital infection.

    Streszczenie angielskie: In 2000, 439 intestinal cestode infections were registered in Poland. Among them 359 were caused by Taenia saginata, three by T. solium, 52 by Taenia sp., two by Hymenolepis nana, two by Diphyllobothrium latum, and one by Dipylidium caninum. Moreover, 29 cases of echinococcosis were also registered. The obtained results confirmed the low frequency of intestinal cestodoses in Poland.

    Streszczenie angielskie: The authors have studied the morphological differences of sutural areas in humanskulls at distinct stages of obliteration. A computed tomography aided with computer algorithm of tonal correction was applied to visualise structural changes in the sutural areas that are correlated with sutural osscification. The results of our study suggest that obliteration of cranial sutures is accompanied by local fluctuations of bony density in sutural areas, gradual unification of structural density towards ectocranium. When the obliteration proceeds, the sutural gap ceases. The laminas and diploic layers of the two opposing bones become a single structure of increased integrity.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Preparation of microcorrosion casts that can be used for obsrvation in SEM is a laborious, time-consuming precedure. The authors paid particular attention to the process of dissection of the microcorrosion casts. This prompted the authors to reconstruct the plastic mass, produced by the firm Gurr (Great Britain) in the 1970s, which was used by them in previous research to immerse the cast in order to minimise the damage. By using easily obtainable polyethylene glycols, characterised by different physical and chemical features , in order to obtain smooth surface of the section, a low-toxic mixture was composed, which protected the microcorrosion casts sufficiently and did not interfere with the physical and chemical properties of the cast.
