    Streszczenie angielskie: Objectives. To evaluate the correlation between Gleason grade, T stage, tumour grade and preoperative prostatespecific antigen (PSA) level ( or 20 ng/mL) in patietns after radical prostatectomy (RP). Patietns and methods. The serum total PSA level was measured 3 months before surgery in 87 patients who then undrewent RP between 1994 and 2000; the tumour specimens were staged and graded. Results. There were 57 (66 p.c.) patietns with a PSA level of 20 ng/mL; in this group only four (7 p.c.) patients had a Gleason grade of 7 and eight (14 p.c.) had G3 tumours. Thirty (34 p.c.) patients had a PSA level of 20 ng/mL; in this group only two (7 p.c.) patietns had a Gleason grade of 7 and 26 (87 p.c.) had G1 and G2 tumours. Conclusions. These results confirm our previous observations that the PSA level cannot be use as the only factor to indicate RP in patients with prostate cancer, but further evaluation on more patietns is needed.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Purpose: The aim of the study was to describe the expression of ŕ3á1, ŕ4á1 and á1 integrins in rats endometrium and their possible changes after surgically induced endometriosis. Material and methods: An experimental was performed on 28 Wistar rats. Fragment of endometrium was implanted into the mesentery of the contralateral horn of the uterus. At the time of the second laparotomy endometrial foci were found in 21 rats. Endometrial foci were excised and fragment of uterine horn of all animals was taken for immunohistochemical staining for ŕ3á1, ŕ4á1 and á1 integrins. Results: Pirmarily all integrins presented identical integrin pattern - no staining in uterine glandular epithelium and moderate or strong in stromma and blood vessels epithelium. In the material from the second laparotomy we observed expression of ŕ3á1 in glandular epithelium of 17 rats. Among them 16 had endometriosis. The next 2 integrins - ŕ4á1 and á1 chain were detected in endometrial glandular epithelium of 18 rats with endometriosis. Conclusion: All the integrins investigated by us were shown to be a good marker of endomteriosis presence.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Search for a reliable endometriosis marker still continues. In this study an analysis was performed of the ŕ3á1, ŕ4á1 integrins and á1 integrin subunit in the endometrial glandular epithelium in 28 rats, before peritoneal endometriosis induction, 3 months after induction and 3 months after endometriosis excision. Peritoneal endometriosis induction caused characteristic changes in integrin pattern in uterine glandular epithelium. Of all investigated integrins no one could be detected in glandular epithelium. After endometriosis induction, which succeeded in 21 animals ŕ3á1, ŕ4á1 subunit could be found in endometrial glandular epithelium of 16,18 and 18 animals, respectively. Three months after endometriosis excision these integrins were still present in endometrial epithelium of 6, 5 and 8 rats of the above groups, respectively. The endometrial sampling did not reveal complete return of the integrin pattern in glandular to the pattern observed before endometriosis induction. The question remains whether ŕ3á1, ŕ4á1 and á1 chain has not a fully satisfactory prognostic value in endometriosis diagnosis or did the inflammatory process associated with tissue healing influence integrin pattern.
