Streszczenie angielskie: The terms lymphonodular hyperplasia are used to denote those changes in the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract that appear as small, 1-5 mm nodes in radiological studies and/or endoscopy and histologically are seen as a lymphoid follicular pattern. The objective of this study was to attempt to assess the frequency of lymphonodular hyperplasia of the colon (lnhpc) in children with various types of chronic constipation. The study encompassed 122 patients from the pediatric ward and pediatric outpatient department of the gastroenterology clinic treated between 1999 and 2002 for chronic constipation. The diagnosis of lnhpc was based on rectoscopic examination (the presence of at least 10 enlarged lymph nodules) and the results of histological examination (proctitis chronica follicularis non-specifica). Our results showed that lnhpc in children with chronic constipation is an unfavorable prognostic factor and may be indicative of greater disturbances of the colon, manifesting as distinct slowing of intestinal transit time. Lnphc may point to a role of allergy in the development of constipation in children. We concluded that in cases when lnhpc is defined in a child, it is necessary to expand diagnosis to include total and segmental colonic transit times and allergy testing.
