Streszczenie angielskie: Carriers used for the local delivery of antibacterial agents may be classified as nonbiodegradable (PMMA) or biodegradable. All of the above systems release antibiotics at concentrations (MICs) for the most common pathogens. The major disadvantage of the PMMA beeds is the need for the surgical removal at the completion of antibiotic release, which usually takes place 4 weeks after their implantation. The biodegradable carriers do not require surgical removal and of those listed, the collagen-gentamycin sponge has been applied successfully over the last decade for bone infection. Further development of such biodegradable systems will provide a novel approach in the future for the eradication of chronic osteomyelitis.

Streszczenie angielskie: When selecting an antiarrhythmic agent the clinician needs to be able to accurately predict the probability that a particular drug will serve its intended purpose in a given patient. This is difficult because of the complexity of variables which govern the relationship between drug administration and clinical outcome. The efficacy of drug may potentially be predicted from its mechanism of action. The most practical use of the current classification systems applied to antiarrhythmic agents may be in their ability to predic with reasonable accuracy, the risk and type of proarrhythmia based on the mechanism of action of an agent.
