    Streszczenie polskie: Celem pracy jest przedstawienie współczesnych poglądów na temat aspektów psychosomatycznych depresji. Uwzględniono wpływ czynników biologicznych i psychospołeczncyh na przebieg depresji oraz współzależności między zaburzeniamia homeostazy i skargami chorych na depresję. Następstwa biologiczne stresu, które towarzyszą depresji, mogą być przyczyną wyzwolenia się wielu schorzeń somatycznych. Leczenie depresji jest więc problememe ogólnolekarskim.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Medical records of patient treated in I Department of Psychiatry Medical University of Gdańsk in 1996-2000 were analyzed. Carbamazepine was used in 383 patients, 209 male and 174 female. Mean age for the whole group 41,2 years, for male 40,6, for female 41,9. Carbamazepine was mainly used in affective disorders (F30 - 33) and organic affective disorders (F06.3 - 107 persons. Second the most common indication was organic personality disturbances (F07.0) - 121 persons. Carbamazepine was used in 100-2000 mg per day (mean dose 415 mg) during 5-189 days (mean 36 days). Treatment was well tolerated. Only 24 patients (6,3 p.c.) have mild side effects. Drug level in blood was checked in 19 patients during two last years of analysed material. Carbamazepine was used mainly with tricyclic antidepressants (30,3 p.c.), second generation antidepressive drugs (22,2 p.c.) and typical neuroleptic (11,1 p.c.). More than half of patients (55,6 p.c.) were recovered. based on clinical material carbamazepine seems to be active agent in treatment of affective disorders and diseases connected with organic brain lesion.

    Streszczenie angielskie: A group of 56 female patients with eating disorders (36 anorexic and 20 bulimic) aged 160-48 (average 23,9) was studied. According to DSM-IV and ICD-10 among anorectic 8 (14,3 p.c.) represented restricting type and 28 (50 p.c.) bulimic type, among bulimic 12 (21,4 p.c.)-purging type and 8 (14,3 p.c.)-nonpurging type. They were treated average 21,5 months in the I Department of Psychiatry Medical University of Gdańsk (some of them were outpatients) between 1995-2000. Duration of disorders was 4 months-10 years (X ń SD33,8 ń 28,6 months). Follow-up period lasted from 4 months to 2 years. All patients were examined twice time (before and after treatment) with the following methods: Structured Questionnaire, Hospital Depression and Anxiety Scale Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), PIL by Crumbaugh and Maholick, Spielberger Self-Evaluation Questionaire. The aim of our examination was to define changes in the state of patients after complex treatment (pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy) and important parameters of quality of life in our groups. After complex treatment (pharmacotherapy, individual and group psychotherapy) which lasted average 21,5 months we observed significant improvement of depressive and anxiety symptoms. Pharmacotherapy included tricyclic antidepressants (55,4 p.c.), tetracyclic antidepressants (10,7 p.c.), SSRI (44,6 p.c.), neuroleptics (10,7 p.c.). carbamazepine (32,1 p.c.).     Streszczenie angielskie: This essay is a set of concepts concerning human nature with its intrinsic move towards happiness and positive balance of feelings. One of the methods of obtaining pleasure is the use of psychoactive substances. This infallible method becomes a trap. The aim of our work was to present the reader how significant the positive emotions and the ways of obtaining them in our every day life are. In our world of mind and knowledge we often depreciate the role of positive emotions. Suddenly, being embedded in crisis, we seek the easiest way to get the positive state back. This paper presents various models of addiction with the emphasis of the psychosocial model. Self-sustaining vicious mechanisms disintegrate slowly every single sphere of ones personality. The social functioning of the individual is also influenced by the addiction. The authors emphasize the disadvantageous influence of social and civilization changes on the decrease in the amount of positive emotions experienced by the individuals accompanied by the simultaneous increase in "academic intelligence" in developed societies. To describe that phenomenon the authors propose the concept of "civilization cross".
