    Streszczenie angielskie: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic process of the cartilage and subchondral bone destruction with coexistence of the repair processes. Beside clinical symptoms diagnosis of the OA is based on the radiological imaging. In this review we describe the imaging methods in the diagnosis of OA and radiological classification of the disease.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Osteoarthritis and mainly knee osteoarthritis are the most common chronic diseases that causes of physical disability. The article represents a summary of the current status of clinical aspects of knee osteoarthritis. Special attention was paid to diagnostic criteria, pharmacological and nonpharmacological medical management. Epidemiology, risk factors and radiographic imaging are also described.

    Streszczenie polskie: Celem pracy była ocena skuteczności klinicznej i tolerancji borowiny w postaci żelu u 40 pacjentów z choroba zwyrodnieniową stawów (25 osób z chorobą zwyrodnieniową stawów kolanowych i 15 osób z choroba zwyrodnieniową kręgosłupa). Ta nowa postać leku już po 3 tygodniach okazała się skuteczna w zmniejszeniu dolegliwości bólowych w obrębie stawów. W trakcie leczenia nie obserwowano miejscowych lub uogólnionych odczynów alergicznych ani też innych objawów niepożadanych. Żel borowinowy poprzez zmniejszenie dolegliwości bólowych wpływa na polepszenie jakoci życia pacjentów oraz ograniczenie stosowania doustnych leków przeciwbólowych.

    Streszczenie angielskie: The aim of this study was the assessment of the peloid gel efficacy and tolerability in the group of 40 patients with osteoarthritis (25 patients with gonarthrosis and 15 with spondylosis). This new form of the drug decreased pain in joints after 3 weeks of the treatment. During therapy local or systemic allergic or other adverse effects were not observed. Peloid gel through the analgesic action increases the quality of the life and decreases the use of oral analgesic drugs.
