Streszczenie angielskie: The aim of this paper was to point out local and general factors that influence the phonatory organs and lead to voice disorders in teachers who use their voice for occupational reasons. General illnesses may be associated with alternation of mucosal secretions. Many systemic diseases may impair muscle function. The drying effect of many medicines can results in decreased vocal cord lubrication and irritability to frequent throat clearing or coughing. Overwhelming emotion often results in a tremor of the voice. Specific inquires about general health and energy, endocrine function (especially thyroid and sex hormones), previous surgery of all other body systems, not just the larynx, provide essential information for assessment and treatment of the professional voice users.

Streszczenie angielskie: Laryngeal anatomy has been briefly reviewed. The major functions of the larynx (LX) are to permit a free passage of air in order to promote gas exchange and to prevent the entry of foreign bodies into the lower airways. With species evolution humans have developed a unique additional function by converting the sounds generated by the vocal tract into speech and song to communicate thoughts and emotions. The vocal folds as fundamental tone generator are the most important part of LX in phonation function aspect. They are composed of various tissues types: epithelium, lamina propria, striated muscle, nerves, vascular structures and cartilage. Althrough each of these tissue types are important, this article focuses on the epithelium, lamina propria and muscles. The epidermis servers as a protective covering that helps to give the shape and consistency to the lamina propria. The lamina propria of the vocal folds is certainly an active and vibrant structure and has been traditionally categorized into three layers based on their histologic composition of elastin and collagen fibers. Another useful categorization of the lamina propria is based on biologic components, that is, by cellular and noncellular contents. Laryngeal muscles (LM) are highly specialized for phonation and sphincter activity. This specialization is reflected in the structure of LM. The higher frequency of slow - twitch oxidative and fast - twitch glycolytic oxidative fibres characterizes the muscles as having aerobic metabolism, resistance to fatigue and fast contraction.

Streszczenie angielskie: Authors present the voice disorders and laryngeal symptoms in thyroid gland dysfunction. The dysphonia associated with hyperthyroidism is described. Breathy voice quality and reduced loudness have been noted, presumably due to weakness of the respiratory and phonatory musculature. In thyreotoxicosis can be expected symptoms of myopathy in laryngeal muscles - hoarseness, abnormal voice pitch, reduced loudness and phonation time shortness. In cours of thyroiditis can be found cricoarythenoid arthritis and vocal cord paresis. A straightening of trachea can appears in Riedel's strumitis. In congenital hyperthyroidism significantly changes of cry signals were observed: both the minimum and maximum of the fundamental frequency and the maximum pitch of shift were significantly lower. The cry analysis is a sensitive test to investigate newborn children when hyperthyroidism is suspected. The dysphonia in hypothyroidism in adults is characterised by the hoarse, coarse or gravely voice, by excessively low pitch and reduction of vocal range. In addition to more typical myxoedematous dysphonia the clinical needs to be alert to distortions of articulation.
