Streszczenie angielskie: The objective of the study was to define the association between mood state of pregnant women and pregnancy outcome. The study was carried out in a group of 39 women with normal singleton pregnancy. The mood state was assessed twice, around 13 and around 30 week of gestation (GW) using the profile of mood state (POMPS) test. At the same time, information on the course of pregnancy, work loas at workplace and at home, life situation, life style and pregnancy history was collected A negative mood was observed in 20 women at the beginning of pregnancy, and in 17 women around 30 GW. The mood state at the beginning of pregnancy had no significant impact on pregnancy outcome. But the presence of negative mood around 30 GW was found to be and independent risk factor of birthweight below 3000 g (OR = 8.95; 95 p.c Cl: 140 - 57.18) and the relationship between body mass and gestational age below 33rd centile (OR - 5.46; 95 p.c. Cl: 1.01 - 29.47). A negative mood also elevated, albeit insignificantly, the risk of termination of pregnancy before 38 GW. The differences between birthweight, duration of pregnacny and assessment of birthweight respective to gestational age in infants born to women who experienced positive or negative mood around 30 GW was around 445 g; 1.7 weeks; and 20th centile, respectively. All these differences were statistically significant. The results of the study show that the assessment of the mood state may be useful in planning interventions focused on reducing the risk of adverse pregnancy outcome.
