Streszczenie angielskie: Immune parameters were examined in 61 workers exposed to asbestos fibres for an average of 23 years as well as in 46 town and 21 in-factory unexposed controls. Humoral immunity was evaluated by levels of immunoglobulins, concentrations of interleukins and soluble adhesion molecules. Cellular immunity was determined by phenotypic analysis of peripheral blood leukocytes (CD3, HLA DR, CD4, CD8, CD16+56, CD19), expression of adhesion molecules on leukocytes and activation markers on eosinophils. Immune function assays - proliferative response of lymphocytes and phagocytic activity of leukocytes were evaluated in exposed and unexposed populations. Using multifactorial analysis of variance we found significantly increased levels of immunoglobulin E, concentrations of IL-6 and soluble adhesion molecule ICAM-1 in asbestos exposed workers. Expression of adhesion molecule CD62L (L-selectin) on monocytes and granulocytes was significantly higher in explosed workers. Moreover CD69 and CD66b markers on eosinophils were significantly increased among people exposed to asbestos. Immune function assays showed a significant decrease in proliferative response of lymphocytes stimulated by T-cell mitogen PHA in the exposed group. Proliferation of lymphocytes stimulated through T-cell receptors, T-dependent B-cell response an memory cell function did not differ between exposed workers and controls. Spearman correlation analysis revealed decreasing proliferative response of T and B-lymphocytes in the exposed population with ...
