Streszczenie angielskie: Extracellular matrix turnover disturbnces are implicated in many human diseases. matrix Metalloproteinases (MMP) are belived to play a pivotal role in maintaining the intricate balance between extracellular matrix synthesis and degradiation. These enzymes are active in the cleavage of many matrix proteins. There is evidence that matrix metalloproteinases activity changes in many pathological conditions, including inflammatory and degenerative disorders as well as tumour progression and metastases. This review focuses on the recent view on physiological and pathological function of MMPs. Authors aimed also to show the putative role of matrix metalloproteinases as a diagnostic tool in future medicine.

Streszczenie angielskie: Hypertriglyceridemia associated with chronic renal failure (CRF) and elevated plasma concentration of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) are thought to be a consequence of the depressed lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase activities and impaired clearance of lipoproteins. However, ther is some evidence that the lipoproteins overproduction might also contribute to hypertriglyceridemia in CRF. This study was performed to test the hypothesis that the increased rate of lipogenesis consequent to upregulation of fatty acid synthase (FAS), a key lipogenic enzyme, gene expression could contribute to overproduction of triacylglycerols and to hypertriglyceridemia in CRF. FAS activity, FAS protein mass (Western nlot analysis), and FAS mRNA level (Northern blot analysis) in liver and epididymal white adipose tissue (WAT) were measured in male Wistar rats 6 weeks after subtotal (5 of 6) nephrectomy or shan operation. Moreover, the rate of lipogenesis in WAT was determined. The CRF group showed significant increase in FAS gene expression (measured as activity, mRNA, and protein abudance) in both liver and WAT. This was associated with the increase in the lipogenesis rate and with the increase in plasma triacylglycerol and VLDL concentrations. Our results suggest that not only decreased removal, but also an increase of triacylglycerol production could contribute, in part, to the CRF-associated hyperlipidemia. Upregulation of FAS gene expression, shown in this report for the first time, reveals another factor involved in disturbed lipid metabolism in CRF....

Streszczenie polskie: Spostrzeganie siebie i innych to świadomość własnej osoby i innych ludzi wyrażająca się w postaci sądów o samym sobie i innych ludziach.

Streszczenie angielskie: The personal assessment and the assessment of others is the awareness of one's own person and those of others being perceived as one's own judgements as well as those of others. The study comprised of 30 addicted persons, who were treated at a rehabilitation Centre in MONAR ("A") and 30 people not addicted ("B") who were selected purposely. To evaluate the study the Personal Assessment Scale and Other Person's Assessment Scale have been used, which are comprised of four lists: the real self-assessment - What an I?; ideal self-assessment - What am I?; ideal self-assessment - What would I like to become?; real assessment of other persons - How are people surrounding me being perceived?; ideal assessment of other people - How would I like to perceive other people?. The attained research results have confirmed the scientific assumption about the existence of significant differences between the personal assessment of drug addicted persons and those without addictions, as well as between the assessment of other people by both studied groups. These differences pertain both to the real aspect as well as to the ideal aspect.
