Streszczenie angielskie: Background: Colloidal fluids, e.g. hydroxyethyl strach (HAES), used as blood plasma substituted during acute controlled normovolemic hemodilution may cause erythrocyte aggregation. The aim of the presented study was to assess the degree and rate of erythrocyte aggregation in the media containing different concentrations of HAES. Material/Methods: The experiments were carried out on hpearinized venous blood and on erythrocyte suspension in 0.9 p.c. NaCl. Results: Uncer stationary conditions, an increase of blood and erythrocyte suspension relative electric permitivity (î), with an increase of HAES concentration in the sample, was observed after HAES supplementation. Sample flow through a measuring chamber resulted in decrease of the îL value (determined for 100 kHz). Stopping the flow led to non-linear increase of îL values in the function of time, where two components - characterized by rapid and slow variability, respectively, could be distinguished. The increase was characterized by ç1 and ç2 relaxation times, which can be related respectively to the process of erythrocyte rouleaux formation and to the formation of 3-D network aggregates. Conclusions: 1) The values of çL are differentiated by the degree of erythrocyte aggregation due to the presence of HAES, both in whole blood and in erythrocyte suspension in 0.9 p.c. NaCl solution, 2) The degree of erythrocyte disaggregation due to flow increases with the increase of flow intensity and correlates with decreasing çL value, 3) ç1 and ç2, which characterize the kinetics of erythrocyte aggregation, indicate a difference between aggregation processes taking place in whole blood and after hemodilution with HAES.

Streszczenie polskie: W pracy przedstawiono opisy 5 przypadków jatrogennej hiperpotasemii, będących następstwem różnych mechanizmów.

Streszczenie angielskie: Drug-induced iatrogenic hyperkalemia may directly threaten life. It may be encountered by physicians of all specialities; therefore, the article presents 5 different cases of life threatening iatrogenic hyperpotassemia caused by various pathomechanisms. Special attention was paid to the factors predisponing for hyperpotassemia, such as: renal function impairment, old age of patients or diabetes. Based on the cases described the most important groups of drugs were discussed (ACE inhibitors, potassium saving diuretics, trimethoprim, hypolipomizing drugs - statine and fibrates, á-blokers, non-steroids anti-inflammatory drugs) which may lead to the increase in pottassium concentration in blood serum.

Streszczenie angielskie: Background: The present study was undertaken to determine if hepatitis C virus (HCV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, as well as biochemical indices of liver damage, can significantly influence the relationships occurring between markers of bone formation, resorption and PTH in hemodialysis patients. Material/Methods: 76 HD patients were tested for anti-HCV and anti-CMV antibodies. Serum intact PTH osteocalcin, total and bone isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase, and plasma tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase were determined as bone metabolism indices. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (ć-GT) were measured as markers of hepatocyte function. The patients were divided into subgroups according to serological and enzymatic status. Results: 37 patients were anti-HCV positive, 61 were anti-CMV positive, and 35 were both anti-HCV and anti-CMV positive. 13 patients were free of viruses. Elevated ALT and ć-GT activity was found in 26 and 15 patients respectively. Indices of bone formation, resorption and pTH values showed no signficance differences in the respective subgroups. markers of bone formation significantly correlated with one another, as well as markers of bone resorption and intact PTH in all patients. In the subgroup of patients with increased ć-GT activity, significant differences were found in the slopes of the regression lines occurring in most of the estimated correlations in comparison with all other subgroups. Conclusions: In renal osteodystrophy, hepatocellular damage indicated by an increase of ć-GT influences the relationship between the biochemical markers of bone metabolism and parathormone levels, but the presence of anti-HCV and anti-CMV antibodies does not.
