    Streszczenie angielskie: This study fills out the gap in the endocrinological documentation - until prsent no data abount the thyroid reference volume in preschool children in Warsaw were available. The reference values have been calculated based on a population of 159 children selected on the medical history, clinical examination, ultrasound and urine iodine concentration. The volume of each thyroid lobe was measured according Brunn. The thyroid volume is statistically significantly correlated with the age, height, body mass and body surface area. No significant difference has been observed in relation to the sex. The 50 and 97 percentyle of the thyroid volume in the study population in relation to the age and sex have been calculated. Ultrasound thyroid volume measurement should be routinely made in all children with suspected goiter in the physical examination. The reference values for the Polish population must be used. The upper limit of the norm should be set according the values for 97 percentyle.
