    Streszczenie angielskie: Aloe is one of the few medicinal plants that has been used worldwide as folk or traditional medicines for many centuries. The leaves of the genus Aloe are the source of two products that are quite different in their chemical composition and their therapeutic properties, aloe latex and aloe gel. Aloe latex is an active laxative due to anthraquinone glycosides. Aloe gel is reported to contain (aloctin A and aloctin B), polysaccharides (acemannan), polypeptides, aloenins, enzymes and other constituents. Aloe gel has many biological and pharmacological activities, such as mitogenic activity for lymphocytes, binding of human ŕ2-macroglobulin, complement activation via the alternative pathway, promoting cell growth and antiinflammatory activity. Aloe gel is also present in many cosmetics, for its emollient and anti-ageing effects on the skin. Aloe species have also been most thoroughly studied inscientific investigations. Substances extracted from the leaves play increasingly significant roles in phytotherapy. However, the mechanism underlying their biological activities are not yet fully understood.
