    Streszczenie angielskie: After Poland had regained independence, the fight against infectious diseases became a top-priority task for the government of that time. Its success depended on qualitatively and quantitatively proper supply of serums and vaccines to the health service. As it follows from the performed studies, the legal regulations introduced after 1948 improved the organization of the production, quality control and distribution of the mentioned bio-preparations. Polish pharmaceutical industry fully satisfied the demand for serums and vaccines, providing products of high quality and, at the same time, low-priced. The efficient organization of their wholesale and retail sale facilitated their distribution and prompt application in each case of the occurrence of the danger of epidemic.

    Streszczenie angielskie: In the period of the 2nd Republic, in Polish pharmacy, no uniform, specific regulations were successfully introduced to replace the former ones of Poland partitioned into three sectors. As a result, in the territory of the ex-Russian sector, covering the north-west voivodships, the Russian act of 1905 was still applied. Despite the gradual growth of the network of pharmacies in Poland in the inter-war period, medicines were the least available for the population in the group of the north-west voivodships, weakly developed economically. Unfavourable factors should be mentioned here: the number of pharmacies, the number of inhabitants per one pharmacy and the vastness of the territory covered by the services. Those voivodships also had the least favourable situation as far as the employment structure of pharmacists with university diplomas is concerned.
