Streszczenie polskie: W pracy omówiono problematykę psychologiczną grupy 14 dzieci poddanych transplantacji serca w latach 1988-2000. Średnia wieku dzieci wyniosła 13 lat, wskazaniami do transplatnacji serca była kardiomiopatia lub wrodzona wada serca. Dzieci stanowią specyficzną grupę pacjentów z psychologicznego punktu widzenia, mają odmienne problemy i wymagają szczególnego postępowania. W pracy omówiono taki zagadnienia, jak: możliwość uzyskania ze strony dzieci współpracy w procesie leczenia, reakcje na hospitalizacje, trudności szkolne, obserwowane postawy rodziców. Ważnym problemem jest wpływ życia z przeszczepionym sercem na obraz siebie i samoocenę dzieci. Istnieje ponadto konieczność monitorowania rozwoju psychomotorycznego dzieci w trakcie leczenia.

Streszczenie polskie: W grupie 358 dokonanych w latach 1988-2000 transplantacji serca przeanalizowano przypadki zgonów i poważnych powikłań w prowadzeniu biorców serca, dopatrując się udziału czynników psychologicznych, takich jak niezadowalająca współpraca ze strony osoby z przeszczepionym sercem w procesie leczenia, brak oparcia w rodzinie, brak psychicznej akceptacji wszczepionego serca, obecność mechanizmów psychologicznych zmniejszających odporność i możliwość zachowania zdrowia. Omawiając powyższe zagadnienia, zwrócono szczególną uwagę na możliwości zapobiegania wpływowi wskazanych czynników dzięki pomocy psychologicznej w procesie leczenia.
