Streszczenie angielskie: The examined question is: doses here exist any association between multivitamin/trace elements (MV) supplement use during pregnancy and birthweight. The study was carried out on 1476 women with uncomplicated singleton pregnancy. At first the influence of various biological, social and economical factors on birthweight was tested by univariate analysis. The next variables turned out to be significant: length of pregnancy, parity, height, pre-pregnancy weight, body mass index and weight gain of the mother, sex of the child socio-economic status of the family and MV intake. Then multivariate analysis ANCOVA was made to investigate significance of MV intake's influence after adjustment for other confounding variables. The pattern and period of MV intake was distinguished (daily - irregularly - none during the first - second - third trimester). Brithweight after daily intake during the II. trimester appeared to be significantly higher (p = 0.001), during the I. trimester the significance of birthweight's increase was just below 5 p.c. border (p = 0.056), for the III. trimester there was no significance. Irregular use was not statistically analysable. Finally, partial subgroups were created according to fetal sex and socio-economic family status and in each of it the influence of MV supplementation was tested separately. The increase of birthweight in the subgroups differed. The biggest difference, even after adjustment, was in boys and girls (+130 g and +102 g, respectively) from families of the lowest socio-economic level. This increase was statstically significant. In families of the middle or high socio-economic level the increase was not significant.
