    Streszczenie angielskie: The paper draws together patterns of drug consumption in four neighbouring countries and places them in their regional and international context. The share of pharmaceutical expenditure on total health expenditures is relatively high, but in absolute terms is substantially lower than in EU countries. Drug policy is an indivisible part of national health policy, therefore national health care systems' evolution during last decade is here shortly described. Although the overall level of drug consumption is comparable in particular countries, there are visible differences in its distribution by therapeutic areas and also in market shares of local and international producers. Price level and reimbursement system vary rapidly within the region too. Poland represents the fastest growing market of the region, albeit drug consumption per capita in USD remains at the lowest level.
