    Streszczenie angielskie: This study examines the impact of natural disasters on the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. Twenty month after the one of the most devastating natural disasters in Poland, the 1997 Flood, 335 students aged 11 to 20 answere a questinnaire concerning their experiences and reactions connected with the event. The effects were tested by using hierarchical multiple regression. Results of the study showed that exposure to the disaster was a strong predictor of symptoms of PTSD, depression and feeling of loneliness. Those who had experienced greater dangers and losses due to the flood showed more negative effects. No influence of flood exposure on satisfaction with life was noted. The research confirmed expectations that gender, age and place of residence were also important factors influencing the occurrence of psychological problems. Thus, overall, psychological assistance for children and adolescents most severely affected and further study over a longer time period seems indispensable.
