    Streszczenie angielskie: Herpesvirus envelope glycoproteins play a pivotal role in virus interaction with the host cell, in the entry and egress of the virus. As an outermost layer of the virion they are also the primary target of the host immune response. The studies of the role and strucutre of glycoprotiens are greatly facilitated by their expression in heterologous systems. Baculovirus system, which allows to produce large amounts of proteins, is frequently employed for expression of viral glycoproteins. The proteins produced in insect cells have usually correct post-translational modification, including N-glycosylation. The paper presents the variety of examples of the successful expression of herpesvirus glycoproteins for many research and application purposes, including structural, functional and antigenic studies.
