    Streszczenie angielskie: Disturbances in renal homeostatic function lead to changes in endocrine cell secretory activity. The aim of this study was the histomorphological estimation of dependence of gastric APUD system cell morphology and function on the time after subtotal nephrectomy in Wistar rats. Fragments of gastric pylorus were collected 1, 2, 4, and 6 weeks after nephrectomy. Paraffin sections were stained with H+E and by silver impregnation. Immunohistochemical reactions with the use of specific antibodies against calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), synaptophysin (SPh), somatostatin (ST), and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) were also performed. Immunoreactivity of the examined substances in the pyloric mucosa in the first week after nephrectomy was lowr than in the control group. However, in the following time intervals, endocrine cells showd stronger immunostaining in comparison with the control rats. The results suggest that chronic renal failure can modulate secretory activity of APUD system cells.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Hormonal disorders are the permanent symptoms of renal failure. They concern all known hormones and can be due to quantitative changes of the secretory activity and disturbances of endocrine cell functions. The aim of this study was to establish whether experimental thyroparathyroidectomy in uremic animals causes detectable histomorphological changes in endocrine cells of pancreatic islets. Thyroparathyroidectomy was performed in rats 30 days after nephrectomy. Fragments of pancreatic tissue were collected 14 days after the operation. Paraffin sections were stained with H + E and by silver salt impregnation. Immunohistochemical reactions were conducted using antibodies against calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), synaptophysin (SPh), somatostatin (ST), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and chromogranin (CgA). It was shown that endocrine cells of pancreatic islets in thyroparathyroidectomized rats show intensified immunoreactivity to SPh and ST as compared to the control group of animals. Immunocytochemical reactions for NSE, CgA, and CGRP were negative.

    Streszczenie angielskie: The kidneys are responsible for iodine and of thyroid hormone biodegradation. The aim of this study was the histomorphological and immunohistochemical evaluation of the influence of sex on parafollicular thyroid C cells in rats chronic renal failure. The experiment included 40 Wistar rats after subtotal nephrectomy, after sham operation, and without any surgical procedure. Two weeks after nephrectomy, fragments of thyroids were collected from the examined animals. Paraffin sections were stained with H + E and by silver impregnation. Calcitonin (CT), synaptophysin (SPh), somatostatin (ST), and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) were detected immunohistochemically in C cells. In rats with experimental uremia, immunostaining for the examined substances increased significantly in comparison to the controls. We also observed higher number of C cells with a stronger reaction in the group of males, compared to the female rats.

    Streszczenie angielskie: Long-term treatment with cyclosporine in solid organ transplantation has been shown to be associated with the development of hypertension and nephrotoxicity. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors have well-known nephroprotective properties and may prevent cyclosporine A (CYA)-induced hypertension. Angiotensin receptor I antagonists have similar properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate if losartan or enalapril could be administered with CYA to reduce its nephrotoxic effect in uremic rats. The studies were performed on the following groups of rats: group I - control; group II - control rats + lossartan; group III - control rats + CYA; group IV - uremic rats; group V - uremic rats + losartan; group VI - uremic rats + CYA; group VII - uremic rats + losartan + CYA, group VIII - control rats + enalapril; group IX - control rats + enalapril + CYA; group X - uremic rats + enalapril; group XI - uremic rats + enalapril + CYA. Pretreatment with CYA, losartan or enalapril in uremic rats resulted in a significant increase in urea and creatinine levels and a decrease in hematocrit. The same effect was observed when uremic rats were given CYA + losartan or CYA + enalapril. Pretreatment with losartan was associated with the increase in the level of CYA much higher than with CYA treatment alone. Similarly, pretreatment with enalapril resulted in a significant increase in CYA concentration in both groups of rats given CYA: uremic and non-uremic.
