Streszczenie angielskie: Background: The identification of the intraorbital foreign body (IOFB) as well as management and prognosis depends mostly on its composition, location and size. The purpose of the study was to assess the value of US and CT in detection and location of IOFBs of various compositions and to determine the associated damage to the anatomy with late sequelae of penetrating orbital injury. Material/Methods: Twenty two children (86 p.c. of boys, mean age - 10.6 yrs) with orbital trauma by IOFBs were diagnosed by CT. US studies were performed in 15 of them. Results: IOFBs were found in 12 children: metallic in 7 patients, wooden in 4, and plastic in 1 child. CT and US features of the diagnostic images are presented. The effectiveness of the both methods in detection and location of IOFBs with orbital integrity evaluations are described. Conclusions: CT is the method of choice in metallic IOFBs detection and location. It is difficult to detect wooden or plastic IOFB by CT when it is isodense or placed in the hemorrhage focus. US detection of IOVF is unsuccessful when it is behind an air collection or outside the globe. Retinal localization and integrity is easily visualized with color Doppler US. CT and US are complementary modalities in evalution of IOFV injury.
