Streszczenie angielskie: Suspensional reaggregates were obtained from human neocortical and tegmental anlagen (7 weeks of gestation), using 0.1 p.c. tripsin solution, and cultivated in Medium 199. Suspensional reaggregates, formed after 2 days in vitro, were grafted into the Wistar rat striatum. Incipient stages of histogenesis in the reaggregates and their interaction with host brain were investigated using light and electron microscopy, with antibodies against vimentin, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), ferritin, as well as lectin ricinus communis agglutinin (RCA). The reaggregates showed a low level of tissue organistaion. An intermediate condition between suspension and the true tissue could be observed in them. These reaggregates had two evident features: a rather irregular cell arrangement (without parallel bundles of radial glia), and the presence of special intercellular junctions. Some cells made up fragments of neuroepithelial sheet in the form of true rosettes. The one-week-old grafts were integrated with the host brain as well as dissociated and contained host astrocytes. Degenerated cells and detritus appeared rarely. The data of this work let us conclude that the suspensional aggregate grafting combines some advantages of suspensional and solid grafting methods.

We wszystkich przypadkach przepukliny oponowo-mózgowej stwierdzono mnogie wady mózgu. Omówienie: Współistniejące ze stanem dysrafii wady OUN znacznie pogarszają rokowanie co do życia i dalszego rozwoju obciążonych dzieci. Wczesne rozpoznanie złożoności i rozległości ...

Streszczenie angielskie: Introduction: Dysraphic malformations are the result of impairment of the closure of the neural tube in the early stage of development (18th-28th day after fertilization). External dysraphic malformations of the spinal cord of the brain often coexist with other spinal or brain malformations which can be the cause of complications and bad clinical prognosis. Material: We have reported 62 dysraphic cases of children who died during 1968-1999 because of complications connected with meningomyelocoele (46/62) and encephalocoele (16/62). More than half of the children died during the newborn period, only 3 p.c. of them survived the first year of life. Results: The myelomeningocoele was localised on the lumbal level in 42 p.c. of cases, lumbo-sacral level in 26 p.c. and thoracolumbal in 13 p.c. of cases. The coexistance of spinal cord malformations was established in 1/3 of the examined microscopically cases. There were diastematomyelia, diplomyelia, hydromyelia, syringomyelia, myeloschisis. There were seen malformations central nervous system in 98 p.c. of meningocoele cases. Arnold-Chiari syndrome (46 p.c.), the majority of them (63 p.c.) with severe hydrocephalus, ventricular system malformations (13 p.c.), cortical malformation (43 p.c.), agenesia of corpus callosum and heterotopic focuses. Encephalocoele in all cases were localized on th eoccipital level. In all these cases there were multiple brain malformations: cortical malformations, agenesia of corpus callosum, ...

Streszczenie angielskie: The activation of microglial cells in pathological conditions is manifested primarily by their proliferation, as well as by the occurrence of a new morphological form - rod microglia. In the present study immunohistochemical identification of rod microglial phenotype against ramified microglia was performed on segments of 17 brains derived from 7 cases of encephalitis of viral aetiology (including 5 SSPE cases), 6 cases of Wilson's disesase and 4 cases of Alzheimer's disease. Segments from frontal, temporal and occipital lobes, cerebellum and brainstem were subjected to histological, hostochemical and immunohistochemical reactions. The presence of activated rod and ramified microglia was observed in sections derived from al structures of the brains under study. Both morphological forms of acitivated microglia reacted to antibodies: HLA II, CD68, HAM56 and lectin RCA-1s. Expression of HLA II molecules was less intensive on the surface of microglial rod cells. A positive reaction to PCNA antibody was mainly observed in rod/elongated/cylinder-shaped nuclei, which is a characteristic feature of rod microglia. In the study material, the localisation of microglial processes seemed to depend rather on the structural topography of the cell in the brain than on the nuclear shape of the activated microglial cell. Our observations revealed a strong similarity between immunohistochemical phenotypes of both morphological forms of microglia with the indication that rod microglia is a first developmental form of activated microglia.
