Streszczenie angielskie: Often the clinical course of chronic HCV infection is asymptomatic, but in some cases constitutional and connective tissue diseases symptoms are presented. It is why a rheumatologist frequently is the physician who makes the diagnosis of hepatitis c. The most common serological abnormalities typical for connective tissue disease and HCV infection are: rheumatoid factor, cryoglobulins, antinuclear antibodies, anticardiolipin antibodies. These serological features may occur alone or in connection with mixed cryoglobulinemia, arthralgia, seropositive non-destructive arthritis, subclinical sicca syndrome, vasculitis, fibrynomegalia. High prevalence and in many cases - subclinical course with serious complications of HCV infection should call physicians' attention to this pathology even if the extrahepatic manifestations are predominant.

Streszczenie angielskie: Rejecting tissue and organ grafts shed cellular debris from damaged cells. Cellular debris contains fragments of nuclei with their genetic material. The question arises what is the fate of donor. DNA in recipient fluids and tissues. Is it enzymatically disintegrated and becomes a waste product or it is utilized by recipient cells. We have shown, using sex-mismatched transplants and the Sry-gene fragment PCR detection method, that at the time of rejection recipient tissue contain donor DNA. The concentration of donor DNA did not paralled the concentration of live donor passenger cells. There were differences in donor DNA concentration depending on whether heart, skin or BMC were transplanted. Moreover, there was more donor DNA in recipient tissues than in control syngeneic transplants. Interestingly, a relatively, a high donor DNA concentration was detected in syngeneic recipients reflecting the extent of non-immune pre-transplantation ischemic damage of the graft.

Streszczenie polskie: Wykazano, że u dzieci z limfocytarnym zapaleniem opon mózgowo-rdzeniowych (zom) wywołanym w następstwie powikłań nagminnego zapalenia przyusznic, dochodzi do wywołania słabo zaznaczonej reakcji ostrej fazy i tym samym wzrostu stężeń wybranych białek ostrej fazy (bof) w płynie mózgowo-rdzeniowym (pmr) lub/i surowicy krwi. Określono przydatność oznaczeń bof w diagnozowaniu i monitorowaniu przebiegu tej choroby.

Streszczenie angielskie: Objective: We examined whether an acute phase reaction could occur in children with lymphocytic meningitis of hemogeneous etiology (parotitis epidemica from the Paramyxoviridae family), a sign of which would be an inrease in concentrations of acute phase proteins (APP's) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and/or in blood serum. We also tested the usefulness of the determination of selected APP's concentrations in CSF and serum in diagnosis and monitoring of the course of the disease, provided that an increase in concentrations of selected APP's were discernible. Methods: Cases were 78 children with lymphocytic meningitis as a complication of parotitis epidemica. Controls were 30 healthy children (control group K1) and 19 children hospitalized with suspected meningitis (control group K2). The following APP's presence in CSF and serum were tested: C-reactive protein (CRP0, alpha-2haptoglobin (HPT), alpha-1-antitripsin (AAT) and alpha-1-acid- glycoprotein (AAG), alpha-2-ceruloplasmin (CER) and alpha-2-macroglobin (AMG). The results were compared and analyzed. Results: The results of the research show a significant increase in all APP's determined, except for CRP and AAG, in children with parotidal meningitis. Conclusions: Determination of CRP concentration either in CSF or in serum is not useful in diagnosis of parotidal meningitis and in differentiation of lymphocytic and bacterial forms of the disease.

Streszczenie angielskie: The rejection process of skin allografts is mediated by dendritic cells (DC) and lymphocytes. The recipients DCs are engaged not only into an allogenic but also antibacterial reaction to the penetrating bacteria. The capacity of these cells to sample sites of pathogen entry, respond to microbial signals and activate naive T cells suggests a critical role for CD in intiating antimicrobial immunity. In our study, we investigated the ability of the green fluorescent protein (Gfp) labelled E. coli to infect DC. We studied kinetics of in vitro and in vivo adherence and incorporation of E. coli by rat spleen and bone marrow (BM) DC. Bacterial adherence to the cell surface was observed after 24 h incubation of DC with bacteria. A 24-hour culture of DC from both sources was followed by bacterial adherence to all cells and egulfment by at least 50 p.c. of cells. There was an increased expression of the phenotypic markers on the DC cultured with E. coli. The Gfp-labelled E. coli should be useful for studies of the activation of dendritic cells. The method will allow to study the process of simultaneous activation of DC by allo- and bacterial antigens.
