    Streszczenie angielskie: The article describes a phenomenon of popularity of mummy (asphalt) during the ages. According to original texts like herbaria, pharmacopoeias, collections of recipes and many historical and archeological works, the authors present the knowledge level of this popular medicine, which gained an extraordinary fame. Worth considering is the fact, that mummy held the interest of people more because of its practical use (in medicine) than from the archeological or anthropological point of view.

    Streszczenie angielskie: During the Nazi occupation of Poland in World War II, a Polish pharmacist Tadeusz Pankiewicz operated the pharmacy "Under the Eagle" in Cracow Ghetto until its liquidation in March 1943. He was the only non-Jewish Pole permitted to remain and work inside that ghetto. Risking his life, he and his workers in the Pharmacy helped Jews to survive and escape from the ghetto. A honorary title (and medal) was bestowed upon Mr. T. Pankiewicz by Yad Vashem in Jerusalem in 1983. In October this year, during the meeting organized in Cracow Museum "The Pharmacy under the Eagle", professor Szewach Weiss, the ambassador of Israel in Poland, presented the Museum with a copy of the medal. The Cracow Pharmacy Museum has also given some important exhibits to the "Pharmacy under the Eagle".
