Streszczenie angielskie: An immunohistochemical study of the pineal gland of the domestic pig was carried out using the antisera raised against vasopressin (VP). The pineal glands were taken from the newborn, 21-day- and 7-month old female pigs. The pig pineal glands is moderately innervated by VP-immunoreactive nerve fibers. They run from the habenular commissure into the connective tissue septa and further into the pineal parenchyma. In the subependymal tissue as well as in the connective tissue septa, the fibres are smooth or with small varicosities and in the parenchyma with large ones. The obtained results point to extrapineal and extraepithalamic source of the fibres. The density of VP-immunoreactive fibers in the pineal gland of 7-month old pigs is higher than in the younger animals.

Streszczenie angielskie: Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is one neuropeptides involved in the regulation of the pineal gland function. The acute treatment of rat pinealocytes with VIP caused in their biochemical parameters. The present study concerns the effects of the chronic treatment with VIP on ultrastructure and function of the rat pinealocytes in organ culture. The pineals of adult male rats were assigned to one of three groups and placed in organ culture for four consecutive days. The pineals of the first group were incubated in the control medium, the pineals of the second group - 12 hrs in control medium and 12 hrs in medium with 1 ćM VIP (between 20.00 and 8.00) during each day, the pineals of the third group - 24 hrs per day in medium with 1 ćM VIP. The melatonin concentration was measured using RIA and activity of enzymes using radiochemical methods. Point count method was used in quantitative ultrastructural analysis. Both modes of chronic treatment with VIP increased significantly the level of melatonin secretion during four days of the culture and the content of this hormone in the pineal explants at the end of the experiment. Treatment with the neuropeptide for 12 hrs and 24 hrs per day elevated also the activity of arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase and hydroxyindole=O-methyltransferase. On the other hand. VIP had no effect on the activity of arylamine-N-acetyltransferase. VIP increased the relative volume of rough endoplasmic reticulum. Golgi apparatus and mitochondria and did not influence the relative volume of lysosomes and lipid droplets as well as the numerical...

Streszczenie angielskie: The effects of zinc on the lipid components of carp erythrocytes (Cyprinus carpio L.) were studied on red blood cells exposed to ZnSO4 (0.01 - 1 mM) for 20 h. The temperatures of the incubation medium were 5 and 20řC for carp collected in winter and summer, respectively. It was observed that increase in the concentration of metal ions in the medium led to significant changes in the content of the main phospholipid classes. Zinc induced the reduction of phosphatidylcholine as well as the increase in the content of phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylinositol. A marked increase in the levels of malondialdehyde and conjugated dienes was also found both in the cells and the incubation medium. Moreover, elevated Zn concentrations caused alterations in the erythrocyte plasma membrane fluidity, estimated by measuring the fluorescence of 1-[4-trimethylaminophenyl]-6-phenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene and 12-[9-anthroyloxy]stearic acid, located on the surface and in the hydrophobic regions of the lipid bilayer. This study in vitro confirmed that higher concentrations of zinc ions induce marked changes in the composition and structure of membrane lipids in carp erythrocytes.

Streszczenie angielskie: In the year 2000 thirty six cases of trichinellosis were reported and registered in Poland. Most of them (26 cases) were noted in western region of the country (wielkopolskie voivodeship). Consumption of meat from four pigs and six boars caused 32 infections. In four sporadic cases - sources of the infection were not discovered. A total of 19 men and 17 women were infected (including three children up to 14 years of age). Twenty-six persons were hospitalized. No deaths from trichinellosis were reported in the year 2000.

Streszczenie angielskie: The total number of 26 701 cases of bacterial foodborne infections and intoxications were registered in 2000. The incidence was 96,9/100 000 population. S.Enteritidis was found in 96,9 p.c. of cases in outbreaks caused by Salmonella sp. Private homes prevailed (56,1 p.c. of outbreaks) among the places of the ready made food production. Six epidemics with 1000 and more cases each were registered. Four deaths were noted in outbreaks in 2000.
