Streszczenie angielskie: Sixty-four untreated adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients were randomized to receive chemotherapy alone, n = 31 or chemotherapy and granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), n = 33. During induction patients received G-CSF for 5 days between four weekly Epirubicin + Vcradministrations, starting 36 h after each application and finishing 48 h before the next one with the intention to possibly generate a cell cycle dependent protection of normal hematopoietic progenitors and to stimulate granulopoiesis. The complete remission (CR) rate equaled 94 p.c. in the G-CSF group and 87 p.c in controls. Patients who received G-CSF, if compared to the controls, had shorter granulocytopenia during induction and consolidation, displayed a lower infection rate, completed the induction-consolidation quicker and stayed shorter in hospital during induction, p 0.001 - 0.04. Follow-up at 2 years revealed a rather higher probability of survival (59 vs. 27 p.c., p = 0.04) and a lower relapse rate (32 vs. 60 p.c.) in G-CSF arm than in controls. The beneficial influence of G-CSF administered in time-sequenced fashion on survival needs further confirmation.

Streszczenie angielskie: Several morphological and biochemical techniques are inuse for identification of apoptotic and necrotic cells ina studied cell population. It is essential to define not only the type of cell death but also to identify the apoptotic process itself, which represents a multistage, active processes, requiring activation of a molecular event cascade. In the present study, we have examined and discussed effectiveness of the selected techniques detecting apoptosis in hymphocytes exposed to incubation at an elevated temperature. The appraisal involved detection of caspase-3 active form, detection of Bel-2, TUnel reaction, the comet assay and electrophoresis of DNA.

Streszczenie angielskie: Methods which permit effective detection of Helicobacter pylori are based on endoscopic sampling of gastric mucosa followed by a direct or indirect demonstration of Helicobacter pylori bacilli, e.g. searching for specific proteins or gene fragments. PCR technique represents one ot techniques employed for diagnosing the biopsies. The present study was aimed at examining how effective is the detection of Helicobacter pylori in paraffin-embedded material by PCR technique using primers for the Ure C gene fragment. The material for studies involved gastric biopsies, routinely fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin. In order to perfirm PCR, DNA was isolated and purified, subjected to amplification with the use of starters for the Ure C gene fragment. The performed experiments have confirmed suitability of PCR technique for detection of Helicobacter pylori.
