    Streszczenie angielskie: In the present study we estimated the expression of apoptosis-regulating genes in freshly isolated peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients diagnosed with B-CLL, and in the cells suibjected to 72-hrs culture with/without the factors that induce cell proliferation. We investigated the tumor supressor gene p53, the caspases (caspase-3, caspase-7, caspase-8), the protooncogene bcl-2 and IAP family genes (survivin, cIAP-2). Immunocytochemistry and RNase Protection Assay (RPA) were employed to assess both protein and mRNA. We found high levels of expression of antiapoptotic genes cIAP-2 and bcl-2 in most patients. Despite the presence of its protein product in 23 p.c. of the cells ex vivo, there was no detectable survivin mRNA in these cells. The increase in survivin mRNA expression was noted in the cells induced to proliferation. The level of caspases expression in B-CLL lymphocytes seemed to be similar to the level observed in the cells isolated from healthly volunteers.

We used fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to evaluate the occurrence of 13q14 deletions, trisomy 12 and deletions in 17p13 in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
