Streszczenie angielskie: Background. The course, prognosis and management of coronary artery disease differ between women and men. Gender-related differences in the results of percutaneous coronary revascularisation (PTCR) have been reported in a few studies but no definite conclusions have been made. Aim. To present a comparative analysis of acute and late results of PTCR in the group of women and men. Methods. From January 1994 to December 1999, 12.348 patietns were admitted to our department. This population consisted of 2.716 (22 p.c.) women, of whom 1039 (38.2 p.c.) underwent invasive diagnsotic procedures. Of this group, 237 (22.8 p.c.) females aged 55.7 ń 9 years were selected for PTCR procedure. The control group consisted of 218 men who also underwent PTCR. Additionally, within each group, the PTCR procedures were divided into conventional balloon angioplasty (POBA) and stent implantation (STENT). Both groups were analysed with regard to clinical characteristics, coronary artery lesion distribution, procedural data and angiographic parameters. All procedural complications (death, myocardial infarcation and need for urgnet revascularisation) and local complications also were recorded. During the follow-up, an ECG exercise treadmill test was performed 1, 3 and 6 months after the procedure. Control angiography was done in patients who had recurrence of angina and/or positive exercise test. Results. Compared with males, women were significantly older and more often overweight (p 0.05). Coronary lesion distribution did not differ between the two groups...
