Streszczenie angielskie: Currently the genus Chlamydia contains three species: C. trachomatis, C. psittaci, C.pneumoniae. C trachomatis contains 15 serotypes (A-L). The serotypes D to K cause inclusion conjunctivitis, genital tract infectiones, and afebrile pneumonitis in infants. Three newborns and 3 months old infant with chlamydial infection (Chlamydia trachomatis) were reported. The diagnosis were chlamydial conjunctivitis, pneumonia and otitis media. Three out of 4 children presented with conjunctivitis - the most frequent symptom of chlamydial infection in this age. The conjunctivitis developed in 5, 6, 16 days after birthday. The otitis media begun in the 21st day of live, pneumonia in 3 rd month of live. All of them were propably due to vertical infection from mother. That is why the parents history of the sexually transmitted diseases where of special importance. Early diagnosis (1-3 days after admission) by immunofluorescent test (DIF) was confirmed in two cases. In one case the diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis was delayed, so the proper treatment was administered after 14 days of hospitalization. In one case there was no bacteriological confirmation of the disease, but adequate treatment in 21st day of hospitalization was set. In this case the chlamydial infection in father was confirmed. In all cases erythromycin was the antibiotic of choice. Early bacteriological confirmation of chlamydial infection, and treatment with erythromycin are fundamntal for complete recovery. Other positive bacteriological tests do not exclude chlamydia infection, so it is necessary to use special chlamydial test as early as possible. The role of parents sexually transmitted diseases history is of crucial importance. It might help either in prompt diagnosis as well as accurate treatment with absence of adequate tests.
